Lindsay Hand is a Colorado-based artist whose research-driven practice moves between painting, historical inquiry, public memory, and increasingly forensic research. Hand has exhibited and developed projects in galleries, history museums, libraries, cultural centers, and other institutional settings across the United States.

Her work has been presented through and in collaboration with cultural and historical institutions including the Southern Colorado Miners’ Museum, Mother Jones Museum, St. Louis Public Library, Irish American Heritage Center, Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, and Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Her Mother Jones-related work also extended into diplomatic settings through twin portraits associated with the Consulate General of Ireland, Chicago and Embassy of Ireland, Washington, D.C.

Hand's practice has increasingly moved beyond the conventional gallery format toward project-based and institutionally engaged work. Historical and social research, archival photographs, documents, place, and other source material inform projects concerned with labor history, remembrance, power, absence, and people whose identities or experiences have been overlooked or simplified within the historical record. Independent institutional descriptions have likewise characterized the work as research-driven, interdisciplinary, and socially engaged.

Hand’s studio practice encompasses painting, archival and field research, and studies in criminal justice and criminology, with the Jane Doe Project providing an ongoing site for forensic and investigative inquiry. The project brings painting and visual practice into conversation with unidentified persons, forensic material, investigative field research, landscape, documentation, and questions surrounding how identity is recovered and remembered.
